Azure Site Recovery now supports proximity placement groups
Published date: May 28, 2020
Azure Site Recovery now supports proximity placement groups (PPGs). With this release, any virtual machine (VM) hosted inside a PPG can be protected using Site Recovery. While enabling replication of such a VM, you can provide a PPG in the secondary region as an additional parameter. On triggering a failover, Site Recovery will land the failed-over VM inside the target PPG provided by you. When the primary region is back up and running, you can use Site Recovery to land the VM back inside the original PPG.
This functionality is currently available via PowerShell and supports any Azure VM using Managed Disks. It's available in all Azure regions. Protect your PPG-based VMs using Site Recovery today and take advantage of the dual benefits of reduced network latency and increased application resiliency.
