IPv6 for Azure Virtual Network is now generally available

IPv6 for Azure Virtual Network is now generally available worldwide. IPv6 support within the Azure Virtual Network and to the internet enables you to expand into the growing mobile and IoT markets with Azure-based applications and to address IPv4 depletion in your own corporate networks.
Bring your private IPv6 space into Azure and get connectivity over IPv6 within your virtual networks using these dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 virtual networks. IPv6 connectivity, protected by your own network security group rules, provides safe access to IPv6 clients on the internet.
IPv6 is used by:
- Government or customers in highly regulated industries.
- Internet of Things–applications that use the enormous number of IPv6 addresses available.
- Customers who want native (not translated) connectivity from their Azure applications to IPv6 mobile devices.
- Customers who deploy service instances in Azure with dedicated per-customer connectivity.
- Customers moving to the cloud (or hybrid) struggling with the exhaustion of their IPv4 space and inability or expense of acquiring more IPv4.
IPv6 for Azure Virtual Network includes these capabilities:
- Define your own IPv6 virtual network address space to meet the needs of your applications, customers, or seamlessly integrate into your on-premises IP space.
- Dual stack (IPv4 and IPv6) virtual networks with dual stack subnets enable applications to connect with both IPv4 and IPv6 resources in your virtual network or the internet.
- Protect your resources with IPv6 rules for network security groups.
- Azure platform's distributed denial of service (DDoS) protections are extended to internet-facing Public IPv6 endpoints.
- Customize the routing of IPv6 traffic in your virtual network with user-defined routes, especially when using network virtual appliances to augment your application.
- Linux and Windows virtual machines can all use IPv6 for Azure Virtual Network.
- IPv6 load balancer support to create resilient, scalable applications.
- Regional and global peering of dual stack virtual networks enables you to seamlessly connect dual stack virtual networks—both the IPv4 and IPv6 endpoints on VMs in the peered networks will be able to communicate with each other.
These new IPv6 features are available globally in all Azure Public and US Government cloud regions and ready to host your production workloads.
