To help loved ones connect and share vital location and contact information following the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Digital Office Japan has created a new emergency contact application called J!ResQ (J Rescue). Built on Windows Azure, this application enables people who have been dislocated by a disaster to record and automatically send a voice message from their mobile phone to family and friends about their well-being and GPS-based location.

Features of J!ResQ include:

  • Messages can be recorded in 15 seconds
  • Messages are recorded and delivered automatically
  • GPS data shows the user’s location on a map (up to 20 locations can be recorded)
  • Photo or video can be attached
  • Updates can be posted to Facebook
  • Family and friends can search for their loved ones using their e-mail address

The application is temporarily being offered at no cost to organizations across Japan that have been impacted by recent events or are helping with relief efforts. For more information, please read the recent post, “An Update on Microsoft’s Disaster Relief Work in Japan”, on the Microsoft on the Issues blog.  Click here to visit the J!ResQ website (in Japanese.)  Click here to contact Digital Office Japan directly.
