Azure Media Services to help stream the big game

NBC Sports recently announced ‘Super Stream Sunday’, allowing over 11 continuous hours of streaming surrounding Sunday’s big game. While many of us here at Microsoft are excited that our home team has a chance to repeat as champions, we’re also proud that NBC Sports has once again selected Microsoft Azure Media Services as a technology partner to deliver this multi-platform viewing experience of the big game, across PCs, laptops and tablets through NBC Sports Live Extra, NBC Sports Digital’s live streaming product.

Over the past year, NBC Sports and Azure Media Services have partnered to deliver the successful and record breaking streaming of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The scale and performance of our streaming solution allowed for over 100 million viewers around the globe to stream the Olympics and also set some records at the time, with roughly 2.1 million concurrent HD views during the U.S. vs. Canada hockey match. Azure Media Services offers ready-to-use services to encode, store and stream live and on-demand video to any connected device anywhere. And with online content viewership on the rise, Sunday’s game is another exciting example of how partners like NBC Sports are using the power and flexibility of Azure to provide more choice to customers.

We hope you tune in to all of the action on Sunday via the NBC Sports Live Extra website or app. Also, check back after the big game to learn more about the services Microsoft Azure provided to make ‘Super Stream Sunday’ a reality and how you can use Azure Media Services to monetize your premium media content.
