Azure Data Explorer, a component of Azure Synapse Analytics, is a highly scalable analytics service optimized for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. It provides users with an interactive query experience that unlocks insights from the ocean of ever-growing log and telemetry data. It is the perfect service to analyze high volumes of fresh and historical data in the cloud by using SQL or the Kusto Query Language (KQL), a powerful and user-friendly query language. The GigaOm report shows that Azure Data Explorer provides superior performance at a significantly lower cost than both Snowflake and Google BigQuery.

How can Microsoft empower satellite operators to focus on their mission and enable them to continue the operation of their satellites, without making capital investments in their ground infrastructure? To answer that question, Microsoft worked alongside the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and our partner Xplore, to demonstrate how the commercial cloud can provide satellite mission management for NOAA’s legacy polar satellites (NOAA-18)—extending the mission life of these satellites while reducing the cost of operation through Azure Orbital Ground Station as-a-Service (GSaaS).
