General availability of Cloud Foundry and preview access of Pivotal Cloud Foundry

We are pleased to announce the general availability of Cloud Foundry and preview access of Pivotal Cloud Foundry on Azure.

We are pleased to announce the general availability of Cloud Foundry on Azure, a highly anticipated milestone following our earlier Azure support for Cloud Foundry announcement in May, as well as the Azure preview update.

Cloud Foundry makes it faster and easier to build, test, deploy, and scale cloud applications from different languages. With today’s announcement, developers can enjoy a consistent Cloud Foundry experience in Azure, and a simplified provisioning workflow by leveraging Azure Resource Manager templates.

By merging the Azure Cloud Provider Interface (CPI) into the upstream, open source Cloud Foundry repository, Cloud Foundry on Azure is now powered by the Microsoft Azure team as well as the Cloud Foundry community. This is consistent with our commitment to contribute to and collaborate with the open source ecosystem.

With this release, Microsoft and Cloud Foundry are enabling the following capabilities:

  • Provision resources required for BOSH and Cloud Foundry via Azure Resource Manager template.
  • Azure CPI to provision and manage VMs for Cloud Foundry.
  • Support all standard Cloud Foundry features like availability sets, persistent disk snapshot etc. on Azure.
  • Support for service broker integration.

To deploy Cloud Foundry on Azure, follow the GA guidance.

In addition to running Open Source Cloud Foundry, customers have an option of running Pivotal Cloud Foundry on Azure (preview). Pivotal Cloud Foundry’s Cloud Native platform unifies the software delivery process with an integrated application framework, platform runtime, and infrastructure automation for delivering software rapidly, consistently and reliably at scale.

“The GA of Cloud Foundry on Azure is a major milestone for both the open source community and our enterprise customers,” said James Watters, vice president and general manager, Cloud Platform Group, Pivotal. “The demand for Azure was so high that we already have Fortune 100 customers building their next-generation applications with Pivotal Cloud Foundry on Azure.”

Please read the Pivotal announcement to learn more about this integration powered by Azure Open Source Cloud Provider Interface.

Special thanks to our customers, developers and the open source community for providing the valuable feedback that helped us continuously improve the reliability and user experience of Azure CPI, Azure Resource Manager template and documentations.

As we move forward, we continue to be committed to high quality experiences for customers using Cloud Foundry in Azure as well as developers for hyper scale application platform solutions that run on of Azure.

Finally, if you are planning on attending the Cloud Foundry, Berlin Summit November 2-3, 2015, please join us to learn more about deploying your Cloud Foundry applications on Azure. We will also share the Cloud Foundry experiences with the community at the Cloud Foundry Summit Shanghai on December 2-3, 2015.

As always we look forward to hearing your feedback and suggestions.
