We recently announced the public preview of disaster recovery for Azure IaaS machines, which allows you to replicate applications between Azure regions. This capability reduces the complexity involved in setting up disaster recovery and helps you stay compliant by having a business continuity plan in place to keep applications available during a disaster.
Azure virtual machines running on the Windows Server 2016 platform and / or configured with Storage Spaces can now be protected with Azure Site Recovery.
Windows Server 2016
Azure workloads running on Windows Server 2016 can now be replicated across Azure regions with ASR. With this update, ASR supports the following Windows and Linux OS types in Azure:
Windows
- Windows Server 2016 (Server Core and Server with Desktop Experience)
- Windows Server 2012 R2
- Windows Server 2012
- Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and above
Linux
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7, 6.8, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3
- CentOS 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.8, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3
- Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Server (supported kernel versions)
- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Server (supported kernel versions)
- Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.4, 6.5 running either the Red Hat compatible kernel or Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 3 (UEK3)
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3
Storage Spaces
Storage Spaces is a popular configuration on Azure virtual machines to improve input/output performance by striping disks and to create logical disks larger than 4 TB. Now, large SQL workloads, with more than 4TB of storage built using Storage Spaces, can be protected to another Azure DC.
