Azure Media Services has a rich ecosystem of partners that provide our customers with the flexibility of choosing the best solution for their needs. THEOplayer, developed by Belgium based company OpenTelly, is a HTML5 based video player for streaming Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) content. With THEOplayer, video publishers can use a single video player to reach popular platforms and devices without a need for plug-ins such as Flash or Silverlight.

What is the relationship about?

Azure Media Services supports all of the popular streaming formats including Microsoft Smooth Streaming, MPEG-DASH and HTTP Live Streaming (HLS). Azure Media Services also provides Microsoft Azure Media Player, a cross-platform HTML5 player framework that plays back content streamed from Azure Media Services.

With this collaboration, customers now have an additional choice of using a proven and integrated fully HTML5-based player that can playback HLS on all popular platforms without the need for any plug-ins. THEOplayer supports:

  • Fully HTML5 cross-platform playback using HTTP Live streaming (HLS) on Desktop, Android, iOS and Windows Phone
  • Playback of AES-128 bit encrypted content
  • Multi-audio tracks
  • Frame Accurate Clipping in HLS
  • Cross-platform ID3 support for ads and other markers

In addition, capabilities such as full customization, option to cloud or self-host and advertisement support also light up for Azure Media Services customers.

How can I use THEOplayer?

THEOplayer has setup a landing page for Azure Media Services customers to help you get started. Here you can insert the streaming URLs you get from the Microsoft Azure Management portal and see them in action. You can also find all the information on getting started with THEOplayer yourself.

Please visit the page to try it out for yourself and if you are NAB Show, we are in the South Hall – SL6810. Please do stop by if you have questions or just want to say hello.
