Performance Test is a new feature developed in partnership with the Visual Studio load testing team. This feature allows you to stress test your web app to better understand how it will perform under load and deliver predictable performance to your users.
We believe Load/Performance testing should be part of every application development lifecycle, this feature will help you better understand your code and dependencies, find bottle necks and make the necessary adjustments to meet your load and performance goals.
You can find the Performance Test under the Tools menu of your Web or Mobile apps.
Setting up a Performance Test for your app
Link your Visual Studio Online Account
Performance Test is powered by Visual Studio Online infrastructure, to access this feature you will need to create a Visual Studio Online account. Visual Studio Online accounts are free and can be setup in less than a minute. Doing this will allow you to access this feature and keep a history the Performance Tests you have executed.
Define the Performance Test
You can define a new performance test by clicking on the New button in the command bar.
To define the Performance Test you will need to provide the Target URL and Name your test as well as define the location from where you want the load to be generated, number of concurrent users and duration.
Reviewing the results of your Performance Test
You can review the results of your test by clicking on the history of recent runs.
From here you can review the detailed results for the execution and rerun as needed.
Note:
During the Preview phase of this feature it will be available free of charge but you will be limited on how much load you can generate per execution.
Load testing done by using Cloud-based load testing with Visual Studio Enterprise IDE or Visual Studio Online portal will continue to be charged at their current rates.
