We are pleased to announce the general availability of Google Widevine license delivery services in the cloud with Azure Media Services.

As a Google certified Widevine Implementation Partner (CWIP partner), Media Services supports Widevine Modular license delivery, dynamic packaging and streaming with MPEG-DASH and Common Encryption (CENC). Now you can deliver and stream protected content from the cloud using both Microsoft PlayReady and Google Widevine DRM technologies with the click of a few buttons or simple API calls.

Google Widevine license delivery

Google Widevine modular is Google’s DRM technology built to work seamlessly with MPEG-DASH streaming and common encryption. Google Widevine Modular is supported on Android devices (4.3+), Chrome browser via Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) and Chromecast/Android TV.

Using Media Services, you can deliver Widevine license delivery with a pay-as-you-go pricing model. Media Services provides an end-to-end solution for encrypting your media files only once with ISO MPEG Common Encryption (CENC) and generates multiple DRM headers such as Widevine and PlayReady to be streamed to multiple browsers.

Check out the live working demo to see it yourself! The demo stream is encrypted with both PlayReady and Widevine using the common encryption standard.
