In 2025, Microsoft launched new Azure datacenter regions in Malaysia and Indonesia, and is set to expand further with new datacenter regions launching in India and Taiwan in 2026. Microsoft is also announcing our intent to deliver a second datacenter region in Malaysia, called Southeast Asia 3. Across Asian markets, the company is investing billions to expand its AI infrastructure footprint\u2014bringing cutting-edge AI, next-generation networking, and scalable storage to the world\u2019s most populus area. In Asia, where businesses across financial services, public sector, manufacturing, retail, and start-ups are deeply integrated into the global economy, Microsoft\u2019s strategically distributed datacenters deliver seamless scalability, low-latency connectivity, and regulatory assurance. By keeping critical data and applications close on fault-tolerant, high-capacity networking infrastructure, organizations can operate confidently across local and international markets\u2014delivering fast, reliable services that meet customer expectations and comply with legal requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a dozen datacenter regions already live across Asia, we are making significant datacenter region investments to expand across the continent. These investments will become some of our most integral datacenters in the region:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"east-asia\">East Asia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">East Asia, an historically established market in our Japan and Korea geographies, will see continued growth and expansion. In April 2025, Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/ja-jp\/2025\/04\/16\/250416-microsoft-announces-expansion-of-resilient-high-performance-cloud-infrastructure-in-japan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched<\/a> Azure Availability Zones in the <strong>Japan West<\/strong> region\u2014enhancing resilience and efficiency as part of a two-year plan to invest in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/apac\/2024\/04\/10\/microsoft-to-invest-us2-9-billion-in-ai-and-cloud-infrastructure-in-japan-while-boosting-the-nations-skills-research-and-cybersecurity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Japan\u2019s AI and cloud infrastructure<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-2.webp\" alt=\"Overhead night view of a busy cityscape.\" class=\"wp-image-46937 webp-format\" style=\"width:1038px;height:auto\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-2.webp\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/zh-tw\/microsoft-365ga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> the launch of Microsoft 365 and associated data residency offerings for commercial customers in the <strong>Taiwan North<\/strong> cloud region. Azure services are also accessible to select customers in this region, with general availability for all customers expected in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"southeast-asia-nations\">Southeast Asia nations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Microsoft is also deepening its commitment in Southeast Asia countries through substantial investments, marked by the launch of new cloud regions in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/id-id\/2025\/05\/27\/microsoft-resmikan-indonesia-central\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Indonesia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/source\/asia\/features\/microsoft-announces-its-first-cloud-region-in-malaysia-empowering-more-malaysian-organizations-to-accelerate-ai-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Malaysia<\/a> in May 2025. The recently launched regions are designed with AI-ready hyperscale cloud infrastructure and three availability zones, providing organizations across Southeastern Asia with secure, low-latency access to cloud services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recently launched <strong>Indonesia Central<\/strong> region is a welcome addition to this area of the world. It offers comprehensive Azure services and local Microsoft 365 availability, unlocking new capabilities to allow customers to innovate. Our continued <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/source\/asia\/2025\/03\/12\/creating-the-enablers-for-indonesias-ai-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">investments<\/a> in Indonesia are expected to drive significant expansion, positioning this datacenter region to become one of the largest regions in Asia over the coming years. Today, more than 100 organizations are already using the Microsoft Cloud from Indonesia, to accelerate their transformation, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/source\/asia\/2025\/02\/24\/binus-university-partners-with-microsoft-integrates-ai-on-campus-to-deliver-world-class-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Binus University<\/strong><\/a> is leveraging <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/products\/machine-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure Machine Learning<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/products\/ai-foundry\/models\/openai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure OpenAI Service<\/a> to enhance both campus operations and student learning. AI enables accurate student intake forecasting and automates diploma supplement summaries for over 10,000 graduates annually, improving operational efficiency. On the academic side, BINUS is developing AI-powered tools like personalized AI Tutors, generative AI in libraries for tailored book recommendations, and the Beelingua platform for interactive language learning, all aimed at creating a more adaptive, inclusive, and future-ready educational experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/id-id\/2024\/09\/10\/goto-group-collaborates-with-microsoft-to-boost-engineering-productivity-with-github-copilot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>GoTo Group<\/strong><\/a> integrates <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/products\/github\/Copilot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GitHub Copilot<\/a> into its engineering workflow, aiming to boost productivity and innovation. Nearly a thousand engineers have adopted the AI-powered coding assistant, which offers real-time suggestions, chat-based help, and simplified explanations of complex code, significantly speeding up the time to innovate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Customers such as Adaro, BCA, Binus University, Pertamina, Telkom Indonesia, and Manulife have joined the Indonesia Central cloud region, gaining on-premises access to Microsoft\u2019s hyperscale infrastructure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-3.webp\" alt=\"Urban skyline in Southeast Asia.\" class=\"wp-image-46938 webp-format\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-3.webp\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Malaysia West<\/strong> datacenter region, our first cloud region in the country, helps empower Malaysia\u2019s digital and AI transformation with access to Azure and Microsoft 365. A diverse group of organizations, enterprises, and startups are already leveraging the Malaysia West region including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><strong>PETRONAS<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>Malaysia\u2019s global energy and solutions provider, is partnering with Microsoft to leverage hyperscale cloud infrastructure to continue advancing its digital and AI transformation, as well as clean energy transition efforts in Asia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Other customers using Microsoft\u2019s new cloud region include FinHero, SCICOM Berhad, Senang, SIRIM Berhad, TNG Digital (the operator of TNG eWallet), and Veeam, along with more organizations expected to come onboard as demand for secure, scalable, and locally-hosted cloud services continues to grow across industries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Malaysia, Microsoft is expanding its digital infrastructure footprint further with a new datacenter region, <strong>Southeast Asia 3<\/strong>, planned in Johor Bahru. When this next-generation region comes online, it will feature Microsoft&#8217;s most comprehensive and strategic cloud services, designed to support advanced workloads and evolving customer needs from across the area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to Indonesia and Malaysia, Microsoft also <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/apac\/2024\/05\/01\/microsoft-announces-significant-commitments-to-enable-a-cloud-and-ai-powered-future-for-thailand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> in 2024, a significant commitment to enable a cloud and AI-powered future for Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"india-sub-continent\">India sub-continent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The India geography already has several live datacenter regions, and this footprint will expand further with the launch of the Hyderabad-based <strong>India South Central<\/strong> datacenter region coming in 2026. This is a part of <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/en-in\/microsoft-announces-us-3bn-investment-over-two-years-in-india-cloud-and-ai-infrastructure-to-accelerate-adoption-of-ai-skilling-and-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a US $3 billion investment<\/a> over two years in India cloud and AI infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"consider-a-multi-region-approach\">Consider a multi-region approach<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Microsoft&#8217;s goal is to empower you to build and grow your business with unparalleled performance and availability.
