Today, we&#8217;re excited to announce the general availability of fine-tuning for both GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini on <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/products\/ai-services\/openai-service?msockid=36d156f74ff96d723016422b4e966cdb\">Azure OpenAI Service<\/a>. Following a successful preview, these models are now fully available for customers to fine-tune. We&#8217;ve also enabled <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/announcing-phi-3-fine-tuning-new-generative-ai-models-and-other-azure-ai-updates-to-empower-organizations-to-customize-and-scale-ai-applications\/?msockid=247c4e088bea6619334d5ce08a5067f1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fine-tuning for SLMs with the Phi-3<\/a> family of models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"990\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2027\/07\/AzureOpenAIServicefine-tuningGPT-4o-ezgif.com-resize-1.gif\" alt=\"Azure OpenAI Service fine-tuning GPT-4o\" class=\"wp-image-36725\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you&#8217;re optimizing for specific industries, enhancing brand voice consistency, or improving response accuracy across different languages, GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini deliver robust solutions to meet your needs.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lionbridge, a leader in the field of translation automation, has been one of the early adopters of Azure OpenAI Service and has leveraged fine-tuning to further enhance translation accuracy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;At Lionbridge, we have been tracking the relative performance of available translation automation systems for many years. Khan Academy recently published a <a href=\"https:\/\/osf.io\/preprints\/edarxiv\/5zwv3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">research paper<\/a> showing their fine-tuned version of Phi-3 performed better at finding and fixing student math mistakes compared to other models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a-platform-for-customization-quality\">A platform for customization quality&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fine-tuning is about so much more than <em>just <\/em>training models. As part of our GPT-4o and 4o-mini now generally available, we&#8217;ve recently shared an <a href=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/ai-ai-platform-blog\/retrieval-augmented-fine-tuning-use-gpt-4o-to-fine-tune-gpt-4o\/ba-p\/4248861\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">end-to-end distillation flow for retrieval augmented fine-tuning<\/a>, showing how to leverage Azure AI for custom, domain-adapted models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are hosting a <a href=\"https:\/\/info.microsoft.com\/ww-landing-customize-ai-models-with-rag-and-fine-tuning-techniques.html?lcid=en-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">webinar on October 17, 2024<\/a>, to unpack the essentials and practical recipes to get started with fine-tuning. We hope you will join us to learn more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"expanding-model-choice\">Expanding model choice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With over 1,600 models, <a href=\"https:\/\/ai.azure.com\/explore\/models\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure AI model catalog<\/a> offers the broadest selection of models to build generative AI applications. Azure AI models are now also available through <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/marketplace\/models\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GitHub Models<\/a> so developers can quickly prototype and evaluate the best model for their use case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am excited to share new model availability, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/phi3.5moe-techblog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Phi-3.5-MoE-instruct<\/a><\/strong>, a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model and <strong>Phi-3.5-vision-instruct<\/strong> through serverless endpoint and also through GitHub Models. <strong>Phi-3.5-MoE-instruct<\/strong>, with 16 experts and 6.6B active parameters provides multi-lingual capability, competitive performance, and robust safety measures. <strong>Phi-3.5-vision-instruct<\/strong> (4.2B parameters), now available through managed compute enables reasoning across multiple input images, opening up new possibilities such as detecting differences between images.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/ai-machine-learning-blog\/meta-s-new-llama-3-2-slms-and-image-reasoning-models-now\/ba-p\/4255167\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Meta\u2019s Llama 3.2 11B Vision Instruct and Llama 3.2 90B Vision Instruct<\/a><\/strong>. These models are Llama\u2019s first ever multi-modal models and are available via managed compute in the Azure AI model catalog. Inferencing through serverless endpoints is coming soon.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/ai-ai-platform-blog\/introducing-sdaia-and-their-latest-arabic-llm-on-azure-ai-model\/ba-p\/4240241\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SDAIA\u2019s ALLaM-2-7B<\/a><\/strong>. This new model is designed to facilitate natural language understanding in both Arabic and English. With 7 billion parameters, ALLaM-2-7B aims to serve as a critical tool for industries requiring advanced language processing capabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><strong>Updated Command R and Command R+ from Cohere available in Azure AI Studio and through Github Models<\/strong>. Known for&nbsp;their <a href=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/ai-ai-platform-blog\/announcing-cohere-command-r-now-available-on-azure\/ba-p\/4103512\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expertise in retrieval-augmented generation<\/a> (RAG) with citations, multilingual support in over 10 languages, and workflow automation, the latest versions offer better efficiency, affordability, and user experience. They feature improvements in coding, math, reasoning, and latency, with Command R being the fastest and most efficient model yet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"achieve-ai-transformation-with-confidence\">Achieve AI transformation with confidence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this week, we unveiled <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/blog\/2024\/09\/24\/microsoft-trustworthy-ai-unlocking-human-potential-starts-with-trust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trustworthy AI<\/a>, a set of commitments and capabilities to help build AI that is&nbsp;secure,&nbsp;safe,&nbsp;and&nbsp;private. Data privacy and security, core pillars of Trustworthy AI, are foundational to designing and implementing new solutions. To help meet regulatory and compliance standards, Azure OpenAI Service\u2014an Azure service, provides robust enterprise controls so organization can build with confidence. We continue to invest to expand enterprise controls and recently announced upcoming availability of <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/enterprise-trust-in-azure-openai-service-strengthened-with-data-zones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure OpenAI Data Zones<\/a> to further enhance data privacy and security capabilities. With the new Data Zones feature that builds on the existing strength of Azure OpenAI Service\u2019s data processing and storage options, Azure OpenAI Service now provides customers with options between Global, Data Zone, and regional deployments, allowing customers to store data at rest within the Azure chosen region of their resource. We are excited to bring this to customers soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, we recently announced <a href=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/ai-ai-platform-blog\/5-ways-to-implement-enterprise-security-with-azure-ai-studio\/ba-p\/4253221\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">full network isolation in Azure AI Studio<\/a>, with private endpoints to storage, Azure AI Search, Azure AI services, and Azure OpenAI Service supported via managed virtual network (VNET). Developers can also chat with their enterprise data securely using private endpoints in the chat playground. Network isolation prevents entities outside the private network from accessing its resources. For additional control, customers can now enable Entra ID for credential-less access to Azure AI Search, Azure AI services, and Azure OpenAI Service connections in Azure AI Studio. These security capabilities are critical for enterprise customers, particularly those in regulated industries using sensitive data for model fine-tuning or retrieval augmented generation (RAG) workflows.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-msxcm-kicker-container\">\n\t<div class=\" wp-block-msxcm-kicker-block wp-block-msxcm-kicker--align-right\" data-bi-an=\"Kicker Right\">\n\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-msxcm-kicker__title small text-neutral-400 text-uppercase\">\n\t\t\tAzure AI Content Safety\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t<a\n\t\t\tclass=\"wp-block-msxcm-kicker__cta btn btn-link p-0 text-decoration-none\"\n\t\t\thref=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/products\/ai-services\/ai-content-safety\/?msockid=36d156f74ff96d723016422b4e966cdb\"\n\t\t\ttarget=\"_blank\"\t\t>\n\t\t\t<span>Build robust guardrails for generative AI<\/span> <span class=\"glyph-append glyph-append-xsmall wp-block-msxcm-kicker__glyph glyph-append-go\"><\/span>\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to privacy and security, safety is top of mind. As part of our responsible AI commitment, we launched Azure AI Content Safety in 2023 to enable generative AI guardrail. Building on this work, <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/products\/ai-services\/ai-content-safety\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Azure AI Content Safety<\/a>&nbsp;features\u2014including prompt shields and protected material detection\u2014are on by default and available at no cost in Azure OpenAI Service. Further, these capabilities can be leveraged as content filters with any foundation model included in our model catalog, including Phi-3, Llama, and Cohere. We also announced new capabilities in Azure AI Content Safety including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/GroundednessCorrection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Correction<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to help fix hallucination issues in real time before users see them, now available in preview.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/ProtectedMaterial-CodeReferencing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Protected Material Detection for Code<\/strong><\/a> to help detect pre-existing content and code. This feature helps developers explore public source code in GitHub repositories, fostering collaboration and transparency, while enabling more informed coding decisions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lastly, we announced <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/XPIA-Evaluations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new evaluations<\/a>&nbsp;to help customers assess the quality and security of outputs and how often their AI application outputs protected material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"get-started-with-azure-ai\">Get started with Azure AI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a product builder it is exciting and humbling to bring new AI innovations to customers including models, customization, and safety features and to see real transformation that customers are driving. Whether an LLM or SLM, customizing generative AI model helps to boost their potential, allowing businesses to address specific challenges and innovate in their respective fields.
