{"id":2536,"date":"2018-07-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-07-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/blog\/new-azure-cosmosdb-explorer-now-in-public-preview"},"modified":"2023-05-11T15:38:46","modified_gmt":"2023-05-11T22:38:46","slug":"new-azure-cosmosdb-explorer-now-in-public-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/new-azure-cosmosdb-explorer-now-in-public-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"New Azure #CosmosDB Explorer now in public preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we&#8217;re excited to announce <a href=\"https:\/\/cosmos.azure.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure Cosmos DB Explorer<\/a>, a full screen standalone web-based version of the Data Explorer many of you already use in Azure Portal for Cosmos DB.<\/p>\n<p>With Cosmos DB Explorer you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take advantage of the full screen real estate for your queries and results.<\/li>\n<li>Access your database account and collections with a connection string, without needing access to the Azure subscription or portal.<\/li>\n<li>Share query results with authorized peers who do not have Azure portal access.<\/li>\n<li>Work with Cosmos DB data without having to download any desktop tools locally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From Azure Portal, you can open your account in Cosmos DB Explorer by clicking on the <strong>Open Full Screen<\/strong> button in Data Explorer blade.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"cosmos-explorer-portal\" height=\"421\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/796f72f7-58f0-47c2-a9ce-23bc72208e71.webp\" title=\"cosmos-explorer-portal\" width=\"849\"><\/p>\n<p>In the drop-down dialog you can choose the type of access you&#8217;d like to open the account with and click <strong>Open<\/strong>, \u201cread &#038; write\u201d is default. You can also copy the Cosmos DB Explorer link and share with your colleagues, for example if you want to share read-only results of a query with teammates who don&#8217;t have access to Azure Portal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"423\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/95de6743-3eaf-4edc-b240-4c75b45c7859.webp\" title=\"image\" width=\"853\"><\/p>\n<p>When you open Cosmos DB Explorer this way, the access will expire in few hours for security reasons. After which you need to re-connect using a valid Cosmos DB connection string to the account.<\/p>\n<p>You can also <a href=\"https:\/\/cosmos.azure.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open Cosmos DB Explorer directly<\/a> and supply a connection string to your Cosmos DB account.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ff895b90-a916-4730-aab4-4dd574d08258.webp\" title=\"image\" width=\"852\"><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Try <a href=\"https:\/\/cosmos.azure.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cosmos DB Explorer out<\/a> and let us know what you think!
