This allows enterprises to <strong>monitor key backup parameters across Recovery Services vaults and subscriptions<em> <\/em><\/strong>irrespective of which Azure backup solution you are using. In addition, configure custom alerts and actions for custom monitoring requirements for all Azure Backup workloads with this LA-based solution.<\/p>\n<p>This solution now covers workloads protected by Azure Backup<b><i> <\/i><\/b>including Azure VMs, <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/blog\/azure-backup-for-sql-server-on-azure-vm-public-preview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SQL in Azure VM backups<\/a>, System Center Data Protection Manager connected to Azure (DPM-A), and file-folder backup from Azure backup agent.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how you get all the benefits.<\/p>\n<h2>Configure diagnostic settings<\/h2>\n<p>If you have already configured Log Analytics workspace to monitor Azure Backup, skip to the Deploy solution template section.<\/p>\n<p>You can open the diagnostic setting window from the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/backup\/backup-azure-configure-reports#configure-storage-account-for-reports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure Recovery services vault<\/a> or from <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/monitoring-and-diagnostics\/monitoring-overview-of-diagnostic-logs#manage-resource-diagnostic-settings-in-the-portal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure Monitor<\/a>. In the Diagnostic settings window, select \u201cSend data to log analytics,\u201d choose the relevant LA workspace and select the log accordingly, \u201cAzureBackupReport,\u201d and click \u201cSave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to choose the same workspace for all the vaults so that you get a centralized view in the workspace. After completing the configuration, allow<b> 24 hours<\/b> for initial data push to complete.<\/p>\n<h2>Deploy solution template<\/h2>\n<p>Once the data is in the workspace, we need a set of graphs to visualize the monitoring data. Deploy the <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/resources\/templates\/101-backup-oms-monitoring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure quick-start template<\/a> to the workspace configured above to get a default set of graphs, explained below. Make sure you give the same resource group, workspace name, and workspace location to properly identify the workspace and then install this template on it.<\/p>\n<p>If you are already using this template as outlined in a <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/blog\/oms-monitoring-solution-for-azure-backup-using-azure-log-analytics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous blog<\/a> and <b>edited it<\/b>, just add the relevant <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.loganalytics.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kusto<\/a> queries from <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Azure\/azure-quickstart-templates\/blob\/master\/101-backup-oms-monitoring\/azuredeploy.json\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deployment JSON in github<\/a>. If you <b>didn\u2019t edit the template<\/b>, <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/resources\/templates\/101-backup-oms-monitoring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">re-deploy the template<\/a> onto the same workspace to view the updated template.<\/p>\n<p>Once deployed, you will view an overview tile for Azure Backup in the workspace dashboard. Clicking on the overview tile will take you to the solution dashboard and provide you with all the information shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"AzureMonitorTile\" height=\"352\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/bb8ea607-88b2-4687-a538-4e4fccd4950f.webp\" title=\"AzureMonitorTile\" width=\"673\"><\/p>\n<h2>Monitor Azure Backup data<\/h2>\n<h3>Monitor backups and restores<\/h3>\n<p>Monitor regular daily backups for all Azure Backup protected workloads. With this update, you can monitor even log backups for your SQL Databases whether they are running within Azure IaaS VMs or being run locally on-premises and being protected by DPM, MABS.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"AllBackupJobs\" height=\"238\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/626b192e-25c3-49cf-9cb5-052fdc4c340d.webp\" title=\"AllBackupJobs\" width=\"640\"><\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"RestoreJobs\" height=\"213\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/786698ae-b800-475b-916b-ec44035970f8.webp\" title=\"RestoreJobs\" width=\"240\"><\/h3>\n<h3>Monitor all datasources<\/h3>\n<p>Monitor a spike or reduction in a number of backed up datasources using the active datasources graph. The active datasources attribute is split across all Azure Backup types. The legend beside the pie graph shows <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/log-analytics\/log-analytics-view-designer-parts#donut-and-list-part\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the top three types<\/a>. The list beneath the pie chart displays the top 10 active datasources. For example, datasources on which the greatest number of jobs were run in the specified time frame.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ActiveDatasources\" height=\"514\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/2aa82cc5-871f-41d9-8cd8-624a7f3cf85e.webp\" title=\"ActiveDatasources\" width=\"333\"><\/p>\n<h3>Monitor Azure Backup alerts<\/h3>\n<p>Azure Backup generates alerts automatically when a backup and\/or a restore job fails.
