To try out some of the preview features, log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/preview.portal.azure.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Azure Portal preview page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Portal shell and UI<\/h3>\n<h4><a id=\"User experience refresh\" name=\"User%20experience%20refresh\">User experience refresh<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>We&#8217;ve introduced modern design updates to refresh the look and feel of the portal to increase productivity, improve accessibility, and make better use of your screen real estate. Some key improvements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improved information density and better use of screen real estate;<\/li>\n<li>Simplified visuals that offer a better flow between different areas in the UI;<\/li>\n<li>Better highlighting of key navigational elements like global search and breadcrumbs;<\/li>\n<li>Improved accessibility and updated colors that improve contrast ratios, allowing usage over long periods of time reducing eye-strain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We&#8217;ve made these design updates without changing our existing interaction model, so you don\u2019t need to re-learn how to use the Azure Portal. Starting with AKS and IoT Hub, we revised our designs to make creating resources in Azure faster, more streamlined, and make better use of screen real estate. In this release, we have applied these principles to Virtual Machine and Storage account creation experiences.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"VirtualMachine\" height=\"1794\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2588b685-7ede-4959-9b13-de885fba5177.webp\" title=\"VirtualMachine\" width=\"2781\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>New full-screen Virtual Machine create page<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><a name=\"Virtual%20Machine%20Scale%20Sets%20(VMSS)%20UI%20updates\">Virtual Machine Scale Sets (VMSS) UI updates<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>We added the following new capabilities in the portal for VMSS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select new or existing Virtual Networks when creating new Virtual Machine Scale Sets;<\/li>\n<li>Add data disks to scale set model;<\/li>\n<li>Updated instance details view with instance host metrics;<\/li>\n<li>Add extensions to the scale set model<\/li>\n<li>Added metrics to the overview page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Metrics\" height=\"911\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ea4f9144-2ea5-4475-8d67-dd04b5d71f5d.webp\" title=\"Metrics\" width=\"1694\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Metrics now available in the instance overview page for Virtual Machine Scale Sets<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><a name=\"Storage%20Explorer%20(preview)%20in%20browse\">Storage Explorer (preview) in browse<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Storage Explorer is now easier to find since it is available as a resource in browse. We&#8217;ve also improved the performance to make it more responsive. In addition to these changes we started on a journey to connect Notifications and Activity Logs since many entries in both experiences come from the same data source. Sorting and searching are now available so that it\u2019s easier for you to find what you\u2019re looking for in the catalog.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ManagedApplications\" height=\"832\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/4f716705-62d0-49d8-8117-3e8b74edbcf0.webp\" title=\"ManagedApplications\" width=\"1429\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Managed Applications in service catalog<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><a name=\"Managed%20Applications%20new%20default%20overview%20and%20monitoring%20support\">Managed Applications new default overview and monitoring support<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>New views have been added for you to view the health and alert state of your managed application. You\u2019ll also see a new Overview page, and a message from your application developer introducing you to the app, and where you can find documentation and help for it.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve also added entry points for our brand-new Resource Health blade for surfacing an entire resource group\u2019s health, so you know your application is up and running. Additionally, Managed Applications now has a view for Azure Alerts to surface any custom alert your application\u2019s developer packages into the application for notifying you of potential problems with it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ResourceHealth\" height=\"897\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/00232ebf-797f-4b33-8409-3de79d54c0e0.webp\" title=\"ResourceHealth\" width=\"1873\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Resource Health blade for Managed Applications<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><a name=\"Azure%20Automation%20with%20support%20for%20Python%202%20runbooks\">Azure Automation with support for Python 2 <\/a><a name=\"Azure%20Automation%20with%20support%20for%20Python%202%20runbooks\">runbooks<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>You can now import, author, and run Python 2 runbooks in Azure or on a Hybrid Runbook Worker. From your Python 2 runbooks, you can use Automation resources such as schedules, variables, connections, and credentials. In the authoring experience, syntax highlighting helps you to easily read your Python 2 runbook. You can also upload Python 2 packages to be imported by Python 2 runbooks, allowing you to use custom and third-party packages when running serverless in Azure. For instance: by tagging resources in your development environment with the name \u201cEnvironment\u201d and value \u201cDevelopment,\u201d you can easily retrieve all resources in that environment.
