Download the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/azuremobileapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Azure mobile app<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Here\u2019s the list of December updates to the Azure portal:<\/h2>\n<h3>Compute<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#Updated%20experience%20for%20Virtual%20Machine%20creation%20and%20management\">Updated experience for virtual machine creation and management<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Security<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#Security%20Center%20network%20map%20is%20now%20generally%20available\">Security Center network map is now generally available<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Updated%20Security%20Policy%20page\">Updated Security Policy page<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#Updated%20experience%20for%20Access%20control%20(IAM)\">Updated experience for Access control (IAM)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Management Tools<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#Updates%20to%20Azure%20Site%20Recovery\">Updates to Azure Site Recovery<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Let\u2019s look at each of these updates in detail.<\/p>\n<h2>Compute<\/h2>\n<h3><a id=\"Updated experience for Virtual Machine creation and management\" name=\"Updated%20experience%20for%20Virtual%20Machine%20creation%20and%20management\">Updated experience for virtual machine creation and management<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>This month brings a few updates that improve the usability of creating and managing virtual machines.<\/p>\n<p>When creating virtual machines, you now have more flexibility for configuring virtual machine network parameters. We have revised the interface to give you more control over creating virtual networks, virtual network subnets, and address space.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Create a virtual machine\" height=\"554\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/86f3fb34-f74e-45f1-94fa-9a842bb7c6bf.webp\" title=\"Create a virtual machine\" width=\"1064\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Configuring virtual network parameters for new VMs<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We have also added the ability to specify the disk type of any new data disks during virtual machine creation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Create a new disk\" height=\"414\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/f8aa09f9-1aff-49ca-b67c-d271a87bfbe1.webp\" title=\"Create a new disk\" width=\"594\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Specifying disk type<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Finally, we redesigned the Disks overview page to look more like a standard Azure resource, with the most important information in the Essentials area at the top of the page.<\/p>\n<p>We have also added charts for key disk metrics, including disk IOPS, throughput, and queue depth.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"New charts\" height=\"625\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/e6df5b1c-c7d7-47c3-85bb-b388f4306e18.webp\" title=\"New charts\" width=\"1094\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>New charts<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To try out the new experience:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>From the left-navigation menu, select <strong>Create a Resource<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select any virtual machine image that you prefer.<\/li>\n<li>On the <strong>Create a virtual machine<\/strong> page, select the <strong>Networking<\/strong> tab and then click <strong>Create New<\/strong> under the <strong>Virtual network<\/strong> name box.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Security<\/h2>\n<h3><a id=\"Security Center network map is now generally available\" name=\"Security%20Center%20network%20map%20is%20now%20generally%20available\">Security Center network map is now generally available<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Security Center\u2019s interactive network map provides a graphical view with security overlays giving you recommendations and insights for hardening your network resources. Using the map, you can see the network topology of your Azure workloads, connections between your virtual machines and subnets, and the capability to drill down from the map into specific resources and the recommendations for those resources. For more information see the documentation, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/azure\/security-center\/security-center-network-recommendations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Protect your network resources in Azure Security Center<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Network Map\" height=\"639\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/091f7652-53b3-4f15-beea-04314b651ae0.webp\" title=\"Network Map\" width=\"1083\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Network map<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To open the Network map:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In the Security Center, under Resource Security Hygiene, select <strong>Networking<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Under <strong>Network map<\/strong> select <strong>See topology<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><a id=\"Updated Security Policy page\" name=\"Updated%20Security%20Policy%20page\">Updated Security Policy page<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The Security Policy page was updated to reflect the built-in Azure Security Center policies as they are created in Azure policies. You can see the parameters for each of the policies that are assessed by Azure Security Center and configure existing security policies that apply to selected scopes (subscriptions or management groups).<\/p>\n<ol>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><a id=\"Updated experience for Access control (IAM)\" name=\"Updated%20experience%20for%20Access%20control%20(IAM)\">Updated experience for Access control (IAM)<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Let\u2019s try this again. Controlling access to Azure resources using role-based access control (RBAC) is one of the most common tasks performed in Azure, and the experience for managing access is consistent across the Azure portal for different service types. We\u2019ve updated the Access control (IAM) blade in the portal with a new interface based on tabs to improve performance and to help you complete important tasks such as checking a user&#8217;s access more quickly. Here\u2019s everything that\u2019s changing in the IAM blade:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improved performance of the IAM blade<\/li>\n<li>A check access feature to quickly view role assignments for a single user, group, service principal, or managed identity<\/li>\n<li>Tiles that link to common tasks<\/li>\n<li>A deny assignments tab to view any relevant deny assignments. Deny assignments are read-only and can only be set by Azure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"access-control-iam (002)\" height=\"737\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/a5957ed7-42bd-43d9-98ea-2c3e3d022116.webp\" title=\"access-control-iam (002)\" width=\"1082\"><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>The new Access control (IAM) blade<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To see the new IAM blade:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select <strong>All services<\/strong> and select the scope or resource you want to view or manage. For example, you can select <strong>Management groups<\/strong>, <strong>Subscriptions<\/strong>, <strong>Resource groups<\/strong>, or any resource.<\/li>\n<li>In the resource blade, select \u201cAccess control (IAM),\u201d from the menu.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Management Tools<\/h2>\n<h3><a name=\"Updates%20to%20Azure%20Site%20Recovery\">Updates to Azure Site Recovery<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Azure Site Recovery now supports disaster recovery for Azure virtual machines deployed in Azure Availability zones. You can replicate zone pinned VMs from one Azure region to another region. If the target region supports Availability zones, you can configure the target VMs to be zone pinned VMs. If not, you can configure the VMs to be single instances or to be part of an availability set.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Configure disaster recovery\" height=\"648\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/76d7f227-3226-43b9-a584-2f56fa8b7543.webp\" title=\"Configure disaster recovery\" width=\"1098\"><\/p>\n<ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Replicate your virtual machines to another Azure region.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>To try out this feature:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select any virtual machine deployed in an availability zone.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Disaster recovery<\/strong> in the left menu.<\/li>\n<li>Review the defaults and select <strong>Enable replication<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Did you know?<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re like me, you like to test new things ahead of time to see what\u2019s coming and to be able to enjoy new features as soon as you can put your hands on them.
