Previously in private preview, all Azure Quantum users can now access Rigetti\u2019s Aspen-M-2 80-qubit and Aspen-11 40-qubit superconducting QPUs to develop and run quantum applications. Rigetti\u2019s latest Aspen-M family processor is based on proprietary multi-chip technology, assembled from two 40-qubit chips. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIntegrating with Azure Quantum is an exciting step in making our quantum computers widely accessible over the cloud, enabling end users to advance their quantum computing journey,\u201d <\/em>says Eric Ostby, VP of Product at Rigetti. \u201c<em>The Azure Quantum community will benefit from being able to enhance and optimize their quantum programs on our <em>Rigetti QPUs, taking advantage of QCS\u2019 high repetition rate and large qubit count.<\/em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rigetti\u2019s universal, gate-model superconducting quantum processors are tunable systems appropriate for hybrid quantum computing workflows. They provide users with fine-grained control to explore problems in application areas ranging from chemical simulation, machine learning, and combinatorial optimization.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/quantum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Picture2.webp\" alt=\"a circuit board\" class=\"wp-image-12304 webp-format\" srcset=\"\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/quantum\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Picture2.webp\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Rigetti&#8217;s 80-qubit Aspen-M multi-chip quantum processor. Image Courtesy of Rigetti Computing.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rigetti QPUs support popular quantum programming frameworks including Q# and Qiskit by way of integration with Azure Quantum through <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/qir-alliance\/qir-spec\/tree\/main\/specification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Quantum Intermediate Representation<\/a> (QIR). QIR is an open specification maintained by the QIR Alliance that can support low-latency scenarios and parallel execution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, Rigetti\u2019s integration with Azure Quantum supports a tight coupling with Quil, Rigetti\u2019s native quantum programming language, and Quil-T, which enables programming at the pulse level. This low-level access allows developers to experiment with techniques to increase performance and develop custom gate definitions. Developers can target Rigetti\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/azure\/quantum\/provider-rigetti?tabs=tabid-pyquil#simulators\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Quantum Virtual Machine<\/a> (QVM), an open source simulator for Quil programs, at no cost through Azure Quantum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cPairing Rigetti\u2019s integrated software tools with the tools and languages across Azure Quantum makes programming easier for the researchers and developers who rely on Azure Quantum as they work to take quantum computing forward. If you\u2019re hoping to start with no installation required, we recommend using our <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/azure\/quantum\/get-started-jupyter-notebook\">free hosted notebooks experience<\/a> in the Azure Portal.
