Azure Arc–enabled data services
Extend real-time insights from edge to cloud
A set of technologies that extends Azure data services anywhere
With data services from Azure Arc, bring the best of Azure to any infrastructure, across any environment. Extend Azure SQL Managed Instance across your on-premises, edge, and multicloud environments. Unify, manage, and secure your databases consistently for innovation at scale.
Innovate faster while running a cloud-based database on-premises or in a multicloud environment. Stay current with the latest Azure features and capabilities for data workloads without waiting 18–24 months as with traditional on-premises solutions. Updates are automatically applied according to your policies, so you will no longer face end-of-support disruption.
Improve agility with self-service provisioning and deprovisioning of an Azure SQL or PostgreSQL database. Quickly spin up an instance with built-in capabilities like high availability, backup and monitoring to save time and resources compared to manual setup. Achieve greater usage transparency with a consumption-based cloud billing model for on-premises data workloads.
Optimise performance by scaling your data workloads based on business demand without application downtime. Easily scale up, down or out for more read replicas. Pay only for what you use by elastically scaling based on your needs.
Gain a single view of your data across on-premises and cloud environments and maintain a consistent management experience for various relational databases, such as Azure SQL and PostgreSQL. Manage the data layer with views of underlying infrastructure health and capacity for performance with a familiar toolset that includes the Azure portal, Azure Data Studio, and Azure CLI.
Get cloud benefits regardless of where the data workloads need to run, with or without direct and continuous connection to Azure. The local Azure Arc data controller provides the full set of management features you need, including provisioning, elastic scaling, automated updates, high availability, backup and monitoring, giving you maximum flexibility and consistency across your self-hosted environments.
Remediate potential threats in real time with intelligent threat detection and proactive vulnerability assessment alerts. Get industry-leading, multi-layered protection with built-in security controls.

Trusted by companies of all sizes
Jason Wallin, Principal Architect, John Deere
"Cloud-native patterns and practices help us deliver the factory solutions that are a key to our future success. Azure Arc–enabled data services help make this possible for us."
Kristina Melo, SQL Database Administrator, Ferguson
"For me, the main benefit is that my managers do not have to go to three different places to see the health of our database environment. I want to reinforce this over and over again because that's what's driving us."
Evren Dereci, Chief Marketing Officer, KoçSistem
"Azure Arc–enabled data services provides a database-as-a-service model for us to better serve our customers like OPET; they can now run data workloads outside of Azure and yet still enjoy all the Azure innovation and cloud benefits."
Sven Vollbehr, Head of Digital Manufacturing, SKF Group
"Azure Stack HCI, together with Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Arc–enabled data services, and Azure SQL Edge, create a scalable platform for SKF across on-premises, cloud, and edge—all with a single pane of glass while driving costs down."
Khaled Zaky, Director of Product Management, RBC
"RBC has a large SQL Server presence, and that's where we see the biggest benefit for Azure Arc–enabled data services …. We get the latest and best technology and can bring that experience on-premises while maintaining control in a consistent way."

Azure Arc-enabled SQL Managed Instance is generally available—learn about the new service tiers. Azure Arc–enabled PostgreSQL is in preview. More Azure data services will be introduced based on customer demand.
You'll need a Kubernetes cluster as the orchestrating fabric in the environment to run Azure data services on the hardware of your choice. This solution works with major Kubernetes distributions as supported options.
Azure Arc automates database management tasks for management at scale. Get fast provisioning, on-demand elastic scale, patching, setting up high availability, backup and restore, and monitoring out of the box. Azure Arc also brings data solutions on premises by extending advanced data security, Azure Backup, Azure Monitor, Azure Policy, and Azure role-based access control for databases running in your environment.
