Multiple VM Template with Chef Extension

Deploys a specified number of Ubuntu VMs configured with Chef Client

This Azure Resource Manager (ARM) template was created by a member of the community and not by Microsoft. Each ARM template is licensed to you under a licence agreement by its owner, not Microsoft. Microsoft is not responsible for ARM templates provided and licensed by community members and does not screen for security, compatibility or performance. Community ARM templates are not supported under any Microsoft support programme or service and are made available AS IS without warranty of any kind.


Parameter Name Description
vmDnsName DNS name for the VM
numberOfInstances Number of VM instances to create, default is 2
availabilitySetName Availability Set name for the VMs
adminUsername Admin user name for the Virtual Machines
imagePublisher Publisher for the OS image, the default is Canonical
imageOffer The name of the image offer. The default is Ubuntu
imageSKU Version of the image. The default is 16.04-LTS
vmSize VM Size
validation_client_name Validator key name for the organization. Example: myorg-validator
runlist Optional Run List to Execute
validation_key JSON Escaped Validation Key
location Location for all resources.
authenticationType Type of authentication to use on the Virtual Machine. SSH key is recommended.
adminPasswordOrKey SSH Key or password for the Virtual Machine. SSH key is recommended.

New-AzResourceGroup -Name <resource-group-name> -Location <resource-group-location> #use this command when you need to create a new resource group for your deployment
New-AzResourceGroupDeployment -ResourceGroupName <resource-group-name> -TemplateUri
