How to buy Azure Stack

Azure Stack is sold as an integrated system, with software pre-installed on validated hardware. There are two ways to buy Azure Stack:

A system you manage

  • Typically on-premises
  • You control management and ops
  • Buy Azure Stack from Microsoft
  • Buy hardware from the vendor
  • You call Microsoft for support

A managed service

  • Typically at service provider premises
  • Service is managed for you
  • Buy service from service provider
  • Service is inclusive of hardware and software
  • You call the service provider for support

Pricing for Azure Stack software services on integrated systems is below. You can also try Azure Stack for free before you buy by downloading the Azure Stack Development Kit (ASDK).

Pay-as-you-use software pricing

Azure Stack offers pay-as-you-use pricing, just like you get with Azure. Run infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) on Azure Stack with no upfront fees and use the same subscriptions, monetary commitments and billing tools as Azure. The pay-as-you-use package is available through Enterprise Agreements (EA) and the Cloud Solution Provider programme (CSP).

Service Price**
Azure Virtual Machines
Base virtual machine $0.008/vCPU/hour ($6 vCPU/month)
Windows Server virtual machine* $0.046/vCPU/hour ($34 vCPU/month)
Azure Storage
Blob storage $0.006/GB/month (no transaction fee)
Table and Queue storage $0.018/GB/month (no transaction fee)
Standard Unmanaged Disks $0.011/GB/month (no transaction fee)
Azure App Service
Web Apps, API Apps, Functions $0.056/vCPU/hour ($41 vCPU/month)

*Windows and SQL Server virtual machines can be deployed using your existing Windows Server and SQL Server licenses in conjunction with Azure Stack. You may use either the Azure Stack native hourly meters or your existing Windows Server licenses to deploy Windows virtual machines. If you use your existing Windows Server licenses, you will only be charged a consumption fee on Base virtual machine usage.

**Pricing is for Azure Stack on integrated systems.

If you are not always connected to Azure or are otherwise unable to transmit metering information, you may choose to use Azure Stack in a disconnected mode. For the disconnected operating mode, we offer a capacity model pricing package—a fixed fee, annual subscription based on the number of physical cores in your system.

Integrated system purchase

Azure Stack is delivered as an integrated system with software installed by our hardware partners on pre-qualified hardware. Azure Stack hardware and support may be purchased directly from these hardware partners. Various payment options are available—from CAPEX, to leasing, to payment based on flexible capacity.

Azure Stack for service providers

Service providers can deliver Azure hybrid cloud solutions in a consistent manner with Azure Stack. The pay-as-you-use model of CSP allows you to manage both your Azure and Azure Stack resources using the same partner center and billing interfaces. And your end-customers will be able to use the same subscriptions across both Azure and Azure Stack.

Integrated support experience

Get an integrated, consistent support experience that covers the full system lifecycle when you use Azure Stack. You need two support instruments—one with Microsoft (or your Cloud Solution Provider) for Azure services support and one with your hardware provider for systems support. Azure services support is included if you already have Premier, Azure or Partner support with Microsoft. No matter which support team you call first, you get coordinated issue escalation and resolution.
