Solution architecture: SAP HANA for Azure
This architecture represents a distributed three-tier SAP system running on SQL Server on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
This solution is built on the Azure-managed services: Virtual Machines and Storage. These services run in a high-availability environment that is patched and supported, allowing you to focus on your solution instead of the environment they run in.
|SAP on Azure requires that you run your SAP workloads on certified Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines. SAP requires at least two vCPUs and a ratio of 6:1 of memory to vCPU. The following VMs are currently available for SAP Production workloads. HANA One – DS14_v2, Standalone HANA Database/Data Warehouse/Applications – GS5, BW on HANA – GS5, S/4 HANA – GS5, Business Suite on HANA – GS5. |Microsoft Azure storage blobs contain the disks backing the Virtual Machines, providing long-term storage of unstructured data and executable files. Each SAP system will use Microsoft Azure Blob storage.|
|Microsoft Azure Premium Storage provides improved throughput and less variability in I/O latencies. For improved performance, Premium Storage utilises solid-state drives (SSDs) in Azure Storage Nodes and a read cache that is backed by the local SSD of an Azure Compute Node. Premium Storage can be found in DS, DSv2 and GS virtual machines. With capabilities of up to 64 TB and more than 80,000 I/O operations per second (IOPS), Premium Storage will meet your most critical data needs.|
