Azure Disks Storage pricing

Page Blobs and Unmanaged Disks

Page Blobs are optimised for random read and write operations. The technology is used to power Azure Unmanaged Premium and Unmanaged Standard Disks.

Note: Page Blobs can also be useful for scenarios that require the ability to overwrite a random small segment of a blob at a known address. Because these scenarios are rare, Block Blobs are generally appropriate, unless you have a very specific workload.

Storage prices for Page Blobs and Unmanaged Disks are different only in pricing on operations, as detailed below.

Premium Disk prices

Premium Disks are high-performance solid-state drive (SSD)-based storage, designed to support I/O-intensive workloads with significantly high throughput and low latency. With Premium Disks, you can provision a persistent disk and configure its size and performance characteristics. Attach several persistent disks to a virtual machine (VM), and you can configure up to 64 TB of storage per VM and achieve 80,000 input/output operations per second and 1,600 MB-per-second disk throughput per VM at less than one-millisecond latency for read operations.

Premium Disks are supported by most VMs, but for older VM configurations choose variants with the “s” denomination for Premium Disk support – for example, Dsv1, Dsv2 and Gs.

Pricing for Premium Disks depends on:

  • Size and number of disks provisioned.
  • Outbound data transfer.
Disk Types P10 P15 P20 P30 P40 P50 P60
Disk Size 128 GB 256 GB 512 GB 1 TB 2 TB 4 TB 8 TB
Price per month $- $- $- $- $- $- $-
IOPs per disk 500 1,100 2,300 5,000 7,500 7,500 7,500
Throughput per disk 100 MB/second 125 MB/second 150 MB/second 200 MB/second 250 MB/second 250 MB/second 250 MB/second
There are no transaction costs for Premium Disks.

* Azure does not support attaching P60 as a disk to VMs at this time. P60 is only supported as Page Blobs accessible through REST.

Note: Snapshots are charged at $-/GB per month.

Standard Disk prices

Standard Disks use hard disk drive (HDD)-based storage media. They are best suited for development, testing and other infrequently accessed workloads that are less sensitive to performance variability.

Pricing for Page Blobs and Unmanaged Disks using Standard Disks depends on:

  • Volume of data stored per month.
  • Quantity and types of operations performed, plus data transfer costs.
  • Data redundancy.

Data storage prices for Standard Disks

Operations prices for Page Blobs (Non-Disks)

Page Blob transactions that are not performed through a VM are billed on a per-transaction basis. For each transaction, a single operation is billed as either a write, read or delete operation. If a read or write transaction is larger than 64 KB, an additional read or write input/output (IO) is billed for each additional 64 KB, up to a maximum of 15 IOs per transaction. If the transaction is larger than 1 MB (64 KB x (1 transaction + 15 IOs)), no further IOs will be charged, regardless of the size of the transaction.
