Azure SQL Data Warehouse is a truly elastic cloud data warehousing service. It is your go-to SQL-based view across all your data, making it simple and cost-effective to transform business insights. At approximately 1/10th of the cost of traditional appliance solutions, SQL Data Warehouse delivers more freedom to scale as your business needs grow and change – you only pay for the storage that you use and only the compute that you need, when you need it.
With Azure SQL Data Warehouse your compute resources are provisioned separately from your storage. You can increase the compute scale of your system to answer questions faster or scale down for cost savings. Unique to Azure SQL Data Warehouse, compute can also be paused when the data warehouse is not in use, further reducing your bill. Compute resources are measured in Data Warehouse Units and storage is priced per terabyte.
Azure SQL Data Warehouse is optimised to suit your needs. You can choose to optimise the system for elasticity or for compute. Optimising for elasticity is ideal for those who want to maximise the flexibility in their system. This option also offers the lowest entry price. By optimising for compute, a new preview option for Azure SQL Data Warehouse, customers benefit from enhanced performance and access the highest compute performance levels available in the service.
US government entities are eligible to purchase Azure Government services from a licensing solution provider with no upfront financial commitment or directly through a pay-as-you-go online subscription.
Important: The price in R$ is merely a reference; this is an international transaction and the final price is subject to exchange rates and the inclusion of IOF taxes. An eNF will not be issued.
Azure Germany is available to customers and partners doing business in the European Union (EU), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and in the United Kingdom (UK). It provides data residency in Germany with additional levels of control and data protection. You can also sign up for a free Azure Germany trial.
Separates compute and storage for independent, elastic sizing of resources. Designed for frequent scaling operations to manage compute spend and cloud “burst” scenarios. Offers lowest starting scale point.

Standard egress charges apply.
Storage pricing below reflects general availability pricing.
Data storage and snapshots
Data storage is charged based on Azure Premium Storage rates of $-/1 TB/month ($-/1 TB/hour). Data storage includes the size of your data warehouse and 7 days of incremental snapshot storage.
Note: Storage transactions are not billed. You only pay for stored data and not storage transactions.
Geo-redundant disaster recovery
Optionally, you can choose to have your data warehouse copied to geo-redundant storage for disaster recovery. Storage for geo-redundant copies is billed at Azure Standard Disk read-access geo-redundant storage of $-/GB/month.
Azure SQL Database Threat Detection provides an additional layer of security intelligence built into the service. It works around the clock to learn, profile and detect anomalous activities indicating unusual and potentially harmful attempts to access or exploit databases.
SQL Database Threat Detection integrates alerts with Azure Security Center, and each protected SQL Database server will be billed at the same price as Azure Security Center Standard tier – $15/node/month, where each protected SQL Database server is counted as one node. We invite you to try it out for 60 days for free. Please see the Azure Security Center pricing page for more details.
Yes, once the data warehouse is created, you will be billed hourly for compute and storage. Compute is billed at $-/100 DWUs/month, unless the data warehouse is paused. Storage is billed at $-/1 TB/month.
Pausing the data warehouse pauses compute. If your data warehouse was paused for the entire hour, you will not be charged compute during that hour. If your data warehouse was active and then changed to pause during the hour, then you will be charged for that hour of compute. When your data warehouse is paused, you will be charged for storage that includes data warehouse files, 7 days’ worth of incremental backups and geo redundant copy, if opted in. To learn more, please refer to the documentation.
Compute and storage are billed separately to make it easier for you to see the level of compute resources consumed. Compute usage is charged on an hourly basis. For example, if your data warehouse is active for 12 hours in a month, you will only be billed for the 12 hours that your data warehouse existed. If your data warehouse exists for only 30 minutes in a month, you will be billed for 1 hour.
Your data storage charge is inclusive of the size of your primary database, plus 7 days of incremental snapshots. Charges are rounded to the nearest TB. For example, if your data warehouse is 1.5 TB and you have 100 GB of snapshots, you will be billed for 2 TB of data at a rate of $-/1 TB/month.
Storage is sold in 1 TB allocations. If you grow beyond 1 TB of storage, your storage account will automatically grow to 2 TB.
You can’t opt out of snapshots as this capability provides your data warehouse with data loss and corruption protection.
Your data warehouse is copied to geo-redundant storage for disaster recovery. Storage for geo-redundant copies is billed at Azure Standard Disk read-access geo-redundant storage of $-/GB/month.
