See how to discover, assess and migrate your Windows and Linux virtual machines from VMware to Azure. The ‘Azure Migrate’ service helps plan your migration by discovering on-premises VMs and apps, by using a collector appliance. You will be able to assess your migration scenarios and estimate costs. ‘Azure Site Recovery’ enables you to replicate VMs into Azure. You can then test your workloads and move them into production.

Determine where your migration should start by identifying your virtual machines (VMs), score readiness for migration, map the current machine configuration to optimal cloud virtual machines and analyse costs for your new cloud environment. The Azure Migrate service will enable your on-premises discovery and analysis. Additionally, you can leverage additional tool options from the Azure migration technology partners.

Replicate your virtual machines to the cloud using software tools, and choose to containerise applications for greater economies of scale – while ensuring limited impact to your business and fast migration. Lift and Shift migration of virtual machines is available from the Azure Site Recovery service or leverage options from the Azure technology partners.

Continually fine-tune your resources using tools and services that strengthen security, consolidate task management for greater performance tuning and right-size virtual machines for your environment to maximise your return on investment (ROI). Complete your migration by enabling the components to run a secure and well managed environment, leveraging services including Azure Security Center and Azure Cost Management.

Discover on-premises VMs with Azure Migrate

Discover your on-premises VMs with a virtual appliance – using the open virtual appliance (OVA) format – to create groups of VMs and assess them for migration suitability.

Evaluate whether the VMs in each group are suitable for running in Azure, determine VM right-sizing based on performance data, and estimate the cost of running VMs in Azure.

Identify the reason behind any VM readiness issues and get recommendations from Azure Migrate on remediation steps and migration tool suggestions.
