SQL Server Registry available: Extended Security Updates for SQL Server 2008 / 2008 R2
Published date: 10 July, 2019
July-9 2019 marks the official last day of SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 support. Customers that need to remain on SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 for some additional time can extend the support status of these versions for up to 3 years with Extended Security Updates (ESUs).
ESUs are offered on Azure Virtual Machines at no additional charge above the cost of the virtual machine, or by purchasing an ESU subscription for on-premises or hosted environments. To download a critical security update (if and when released over the next 3 years), customers must first register the eligible SQL Server instances in their own SQL Server Registry. For more information, see Downloading Extended Security Updates.
