Access Control Service is scheduled to be retired on November 7, 2018 with an extension option to February 4, 2019

The Access Control Service, otherwise known as ACS, is officially being retired. Since the ACS retirement announcement last year, many customers have reached out for our guidance and have completed their migration. Some customers communicated that their migration has started but will not complete before the deadline. We have decided to offer an extension to February 4, 2019. Failure to opt into the extension will result in your namespace being turned off on November 7, 2018. At that point, all requests to the namespace will fail.

What action is required?

If you are using ACS, you will need a migration strategy. The correct migration path for you depends on how your existing apps and services use ACS. We have published migration guidance to assist. In most cases, migration will require code changes on your part.

The Azure customers most likely to find ACS namespaces signed up Azure Service Bus prior to 2014. These namespaces can be identified by their –sb extension. The Service Bus team has provided migration guidance and will continue to publish updates to their blog.

How to request extension?

If you cannot finish your migration by November 7, 2018 and need more time. We are offering one time extension to February 4, 2019. Here is how you can request the extension:

1. Determine your ACS namespace

• If you have not installed ACS PowerShell yet, follow the instructions to download from the PowerShell gallery.

• Connect to ACS using the Connect-AcsAccount cmdlet. (You may need to change your execution policy by running Set-ExecutionPolicy before you can run the command.)

• List your available Azure subscriptions using the Get-AcsSubscription cmdlet.

• List your ACS namespaces using the Get-AcsNamespace cmdlet.

2. Navigate to your ACS namespace’s management portal via https://{your-namespace}.accesscontrol.windows.net.

3. Read the updated Term of Use by clicking the “Read Terms,” button, which will redirect you to a page with updated Term of Use.

4. Clicking the “Request Extension” button in the banner at the top of the page. The button will only be enabled after you read the updated Terms of Use.

5. After the extension request has been registered, the page should refresh with a new banner at the top of the page.
