We announced the launch of Video Indexer at Build 2017. Since the announcement, multiple customers have utilized Video Indexer for their businesses and several features have been added including additional language support for transcription, ability to download insights from the portal, ability to change playback speeds, inline transcription editing, editing in insights widget, ability to edit keywords, detection of business brands from transcripts, translation of transcripts to 54 languages, integration with custom speech, ability to customize brand detection, and several updates to player and insights widgets

At Build 2018, we are proud to announce the capability of scaling and paying for your usage of Video Indexer by connecting it with your Azure Media Services account. This capability is available initially at the following Azure regions: West US 2, North Europe, and East Asia. Local data residency applies to each of these regions, and no data is shared outside of the region. We are also happy to announce that the Video Indexer website has been localized and is now offered in six languages.

We are also announcing a new version of the Video Indexer APIs that has been designed based on feedback from free preview customers. The new (v2) APIs are available for all regions: West US 2, North Europe and East Asia.

The existing trial (v1) APIs will continue to be available for 90 days as part of your free Video Indexer account. Customers are encouraged to move to the latest version to avoid disruption in their apps. By connecting your Video Indexer account to your Azure Media services account, usage of Video Indexer APIs and the web portal will result in consumption of services from the underlying Azure Media Services account and hence you will see charges related to encoding, media reserved units, streaming, audio analysis, video analysis, etc. on your Azure bill. Details on how Video Indexer usage will result in charges are explained on the Video Indexer pricing page.

Video Indexer example customer

As I mentioned earlier, multiple customers have been utilizing Video Indexer for their businesses. One such customer is OpenText, a leader in Enterprise Information Management (EIM). OpenText's EIM products enable businesses to grow faster, lower operational costs, and reduce information governance and security risks by improving business insight, impact and process speed. OpenText Media Management is the only enterprise Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution that can meet the broad set of content production, publishing, collaboration, and integration requirements. OpenText manages some of the largest media libraries in the world. From creation to consumption, in the cloud, hybrid, or on-premise, OpenText Media Management helps manage your video, images and rich media in a consolidated, “single source of truth” with an open platform to integrate into other business systems and tools for file acceleration, workflow and media production.

OpenText was looking for a solution for their customers facing challenges tagging content in complete and meaningful ways, especially video content. Untagged or incomplete metadata for video asset means time lost as users endlessly scroll through storyboards and play videos to find the content, determine the context and tag appropriately. By integrating OpenText Media Management with Video Indexer, OpenText customers can now unlock the potential of their video assets by indexing key insights such as speech-to-text, on-screen OCR, keywords and brands. The new Video Insights tab in OpenText Media Management allow the user to efficiently interact with speech-to-text transcription via features such as auto-scroll-playback and inline search. These features expedite the user’s search process and accelerate delivery of the precise content to market.
