In this episode Nick Harris and Chris Risner are joined by Andrew Edwards, a Principle Software Development Engineer on the Azure Storage Team. In this episode, Andrew reviews the different storage options provided by Azure and then focuses on the new Azure Files service. Azure Files allows you to read and write files to a network share just like you might do in your own on-premises data centers. Files is accessible via SMB 2.1 in addition to REST. This new ability to access file shares enables easy "life and shift" of applications from on-premises data centers into the cloud.
