Automation: Run As account
Updated: April 15, 2016
You can create an Azure Run As account (service principal) from the Azure portal. When you create a new Automation account in the Azure portal, it automatically creates a new service principal and assigns it the Contributor role-based access control (RBAC) role in the subscription by default. This helps you to quickly start building and deploying runbooks to support your automation needs. By using a Run As account, you can:
- Provide a standardized way to authenticate with Azure when you're managing Azure Resource Manager resources by using runbooks.
- Automate the use of global runbooks configured in Azure alerts.
