In general, applications or services must conform to the following requirements to join the Microsoft Azure Certified program. As the program is currently in limited availability, meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
The Microsoft Azure Certified program is the path for getting your application listed in the Azure Virtual Machines Marketplace. The Microsoft Azure Marketplace, the Azure Virtual Machines Marketplace and the Microsoft Azure Store are separate marketplaces today, each with their own function, business models and partner onboarding procedures. The table below summarizes the differences:
|Application services||This used to contain only fully-managed data and services for use in custom application development, but has since been merged into the Azure Marketplace||Microsoft bills Azure customer with Azure subscription on behalf of partner.|
|Virtual Machines||This used to contain applications contained in virtual machine image published by Microsoft Azure partners, but has since been merged into the Azure Marketplace||Microsoft bills Azure customer with Azure subscription on behalf of partner or bring-your-own-license (BYOL).|
|VM Depot||Virtual machine images published by VM Depot community members, this is integrated in the Azure Marketplace but not as Azure Certified offerings||Free or licensed and purchased directly from publisher (BYOL).|
|Data Marketplace||The Data Market used to contain a mix of data sets and finished applications. The Data Marketplace is being integrated with the new Azure Marketplace, but still exists as a standalone gallery view for now||Microsoft bills customer with credit card or licensed directly from publisher.|
